Session 1882 -
Exploiting Disruption to Address Social Problems

As business school academics, we have often marveled at the power of human creativity and entrepreneurship in the business sector to create enormous value and improve our world. The same ingenuity and the same passion and drive can be applied to solve social problems and there’s an abundance of examples around the world to prove this point. However, social problems tend to be complex beasts and the evidence is that solutions to social problems do not diffuse or scale up as easily as solutions to business problems. This is about to change. New technologies and new disruptive business models are allowing social entrepreneurs to not only develop innovative solutions to some of the most pressing social problems in the world but to also scale them up for maximum impact. This panel will draw lessons from existing success stories and provide suggestions on how to address social problems using disruptive technologies.
