Tracks D
Session 1757 -
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Our planet faces massive economic, social, and environmental challenges. To combat these, all 193 member countries of the United Nations adopted the 17 “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all. Achieving them presents itself as a most challenging endeavor. We want to organize a debate at SMS to understand better how SDGs can be achieved in the context of cities and how our field of Strategy can help. The challenge raises several questions to all kinds of organizations and across all levels of analysis of interest to management scholars: how are new business models affecting cities? What are the necessary urban strategies for responsible transformation? What are tradeoffs that organizations and governments need to resolve?
